JUDITH BASIN COUNTY SHERIFF K-9 TEAM

K-9 Ranger

The Judith Basin County Sheriff's Office began the K-9 Team in 2008.  With wide support from the citizens of Judith Basin County as well as surrounding areas we were able to fully fund the project.  Deputy Nathan Hammontree is the K-9 handler and team leader.  K-9 Ranger was trained by LaCross K9 Training of Montana, in Bozeman.  The K-9 team  is certified through the American Society of Canine Trainers and completed their second certification in October of 2009.

In January, 2009, the K-9 team was put on hold while Deputy Hammontree was deployed overseas with the Montana Air National Guard.  After a nine month break in service the team accomplished the necessary training and testing to return to service.

K-9 Team has been successful in finding drugs and making arrests on multiple occasions since their return to service.  Thanks to all of the officers we work with to make this happen.

Why a Labrador?

Labrador Retrievers are very sociable dogs with strong drive. K-9 Ranger has a very strong desire to work as well as the physical attributes that make him very well suited to the work we do.  Labrador Retrievers have been used successfully in this line of work for many years around the world.
